RED SKY AT NIGHT IS A DELIGHT: Our Fine Art Department

The old adage (Are there any new adages??) Red SKY AT NIGHT SAILOR'S DELIGHT, RED SKY AT MORNING SAILORS WARNING seems to have some truth in it.

Red sky at night, sailor's delight.
When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. This usually indicates high pressure and stable air coming in from the west. Basically good weather will follow.

Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.
A red sunrise reflects the dust particles of a system that has just passed from the west. This indicates that a storm system may be moving to the east. If the morning sky is a deep fiery red, it means a high water content in the atmosphere. So, rain is on its way.

Shakespeare believed it. He said something similar in his play, Venus and Adonis. “Like a red morn that ever yet betokened, Wreck to the seaman, tempest to the field, Sorrow to the shepherds, woe unto the birds, Gusts and foul flaws to herdmen and to herds.”

In the Bible, (Matthew XVI: 2-3,) Jesus said, “When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: For the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering. Sunset's are a common theme of many songs through the years.
Nat King Cole sang about Red Sails in the Sunset
{Red sails in the sunset, way out on the sea}

Oh, carry my loved one home safely to me
{She sailed at the dawning, all day I've been blue}

Red sails in the sunset, I'm trusting in you
If the color red is your favorite color have you ever wondered what that means about you? Here is what I found written about the color red.
Red: The color of strength, health, and vitality, Red is often the color chosen by someone outgoing, aggressive, vigorous and impulsive—or someone who would like to be! It goes with an ambitious nature but those who choose it can be abrupt at times, determined to get all they can out of life, quick to judge people and take sides. Red people are usually optimistic and can’t stand monotony; they are rather restless and not at all introspective, so they may be unaware of their own shortcomings. They find it hard to be objective and may blame others for any mishaps. Quiet people with a preference for red may feel the need for the warmth, strength and life-giving qualities of the color, or they blanket their true feelings under a sober exterior. Red is usually chosen by people with open and uncomplicated natures, with a zest for life.
I do not know if any of that is true but I do know that when I post sunset images and they are mostly shades of red, I receive the most positive comments. People do seem to love sunsets and especially warm sunsets. I also love red sunsets and I 'see' most warm sunsets as red, just as I see most bodies of water as blue. I do not shoot nature as a photo journalist, I photograph nature with my third eye, the creative one. My images are made to please my eyes first with the hope that others will see what I see.
Below are some examples of a sunset I photographed in Key West Florida. I never take one picture of any subject, if at all possible. This was an example of that. I started photographing the sun setting and kept photographing till it kissed the ocean. I hope you feel the beauty and the optimism in these images. If you do then maybe you're one of those people with a ZEST for LIFE !!
